About the Hotel
Mobil Star rated: 3
This is definitely not a new build but it has undergone numerous renovation projects since its inception and is in very nice shape.
The hotel opened as a Marriott in 1969 and became a Hilton in February 2024. All public space was renovated in 2019. Pavement and parking areas, perimeter landscape areas and signage all received a major facelift this summer. Guest rooms were last renovated in 2018/2019. A major retool of all elevators -- a major capital expenditure for sure -- is anticipated for 2025/2026.
The hotel could be considered by some as a continual “work in progress”; but looking at it today that’s not a bad thing. It was constructed in stages and consists of five separate but interconnected buildings between four and five stories each. Having said that the space in general is clean, fresh, welcoming, well-kept, modern contemporary in design in varying shades of gray with very soft pastel (almost unnoticeable) accents in turquoise, yellow and rose. Carpet throughout including the event space was replaced 2022. It presents itself and the Hilton brand very well.
Its location while close to the Mall of America is just far enough away to offer a much-needed respite after a long day of shopping and/or touring for individual travelers – especially when you consider the large pool area, well-equipped fitness center and in-house dining options. Conversely, the opposite could be true for meeting guests eager to get away from the day’s meeting grind.
The hotel lends itself well to the transient traverler as well as corporate, association and special occassions. The ballroom, expansive foyer and adjacent Grand Courtyard are particularly well suited for corporate or association meetings, trade shows and weddings. The smaller meeting space works well for smaller meetings, breakouts and/or work office or storage space.
And then, of course, there are those famous Doubletree chocolate chip cookies. Yum!
