Looking for a non-traditional destination meeting, social and wedding ceremony/reception event space in a unique industrial loft-like setting? Look no further than Surly Event Center, located within the Surly Brewing complex, in the Prospect Park neighborhood of Minneapolis.

Scheid Hall is a state-of-the-art meeting and event center dedicated in memory of Linda Scheid, a former Minnesota legislator who championed the “Surly Bill” making the brewery possible.

Surly Brewery, a destination brewery opened its doors at the present location December 2014, and brews anywhere from 25-35 different brews on a rotating basis throughout the year. Initially the brand was sold only locally but limited brew distribution has been expanded to neighboring states like Wisconsin, Iowa, Colorado, North and South Dakota.

Scheid Hall is located on the second floor. (The brewery, dining hall, company store and beer garden are located on the first floor.) The space gives off a definite energetic vibe with its open industrial design, tall ceilings, pine walls and flooring, metal light fixtures and railing accents, and a floor-to-ceiling window wall overlooking the brewery below.

There’s ample reception/registration/pre-function space (approx. 1,400 sq. ft) for up to 175 guests, an oversize permanent stand-up bar serving anywhere from 25-35 tap brews on a rotating basis and assorted soft drinks. Per the MN State Tap Room law, no other alcohol may be served on the premises. While the idea of “beer only” can definitely throw up a flag, they have actually found it to be a non-issue! They have a wide variety of beer options available, offering something for every pallet. They also have a line up of seasonal beer “cocktails” to put another spin on Surly beers for your guests who don’t normally drink beer.

Scheid Hall offers an award-wining full-service in-house catering team. Offerings include breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets, heavy appetizers, and plated options. They also have a full pastry kitchen that can create custom desserts and cakes or a variety of classic creations from a pre-set menu.

Scheid Ballroom is approx. 2,400 square feet and can accommodate 40 guests classroom style, 150 theate, 30 U-shaped, 102 crescent founds of six, 136 for banquet rounds of eight and up to 175 for reception style.

Scheid Hall is equipped with state-of-the-art audio/visual equipment that can be added to your event experience at an additional cost. Equipment includes an HD projector and 130-inch screen, VGA, HDMI and mini display port inputs with audio, presentation podium, Microsoft Windows computer, Blue-Ray DVD player, two wireless microphones, in-ceiling amplified speaker system, Wi-Fi access, and multi-colored LED up lights.

Scheid Hall also provides decorations to enhance the space that includes table linen options, colored napkins, votive candles, table runners and café lighting at al la carte pricing.

Clients booking a private event at Surly Brewing Co. will find there is no room rental fee; all events must meet a food and beverage minimum.

Monday nights are designated as “Surly non-profit Mondays,” granting 501c3 non-profits use of the space (limit one visit per year by a single entity) with no food and beverage minimums and all event fees for linens, AV, security, etc. waived. Applies to arts and culture programs (events, community service organizations, environment focused programs/events, community programs/events, fundraising dinners, beer events).

Also located on the second floor is Surly Pizza Upstairs, serving as the name suggests, pizza and beer. This space is open to the public and do not take any reservations but buyouts for private events can be taken on a case-by-case basis. There’s a large wood-burning pizza oven at the front of the room, indoor seating for 132 guests with a mixture of communal tables and bar, and an outdoor terrace with additional seating for 45.

The Beer Hall and restaurant located on the first floor is open to the public and has a large bar and a variety of seating options for small to large groups as well as counter seating with bar stools overlooking the brewery. The menu is extensive and pairs well with beer. This area does not take any reservations for the high peak time, though if looking for a large group of 10-30 during the off peak time (such as lunch) accommodations can be made on a case-by-case basis.

The Beer Garden, adjacent to the Beer Hall, is open seasonally to the public and has neighborhood appeal.

Beer Garden Tent: Located not too far from the main beer garden Surly also offers an area that can be rented out for the summer months. Which includes the use of a tent space and food truck. This area sets the mood for an intimate and energized gathering for groups ranging in size from 40 to 120 guests. They will keep things casual with a use of the food truck for food service and. Its like hosting your own back yard party in Minnesota’s most popular warm months, but with less clean up and more beer. Clients booking this area at Surly Brewing Co. will find there is a $500.00 tent rental fee; all events must meet a food and beverage minimum.

Tours of the brewery are open to the public or for private events (25 person limit per scheduled tour time) and include the brewhouse, fermentation cellar and packaging hall.
